When submitting entries into the Trooper Scratchpad and Records Management Systems, you will frequently need to specify a county name or zip code to identify an incident’s location.
In the context of GTA, what we refer to as a “county” is considered a “neighborhood” within the game’s internal naming convention. Because the GTA universe does not have official zip codes, we have implemented a custom system. This system begins with a two-letter state code denoting which GTA state the neighborhood is in, followed by a single digit representing the specific version of the game, and then a three-digit sequence (starting at 000) assigned alphabetically to each neighborhood. If additional neighborhoods are introduced in future updates, they will be added to the end of the zip code list—also in alphabetical order—so as not to disrupt the codes of existing areas.
The Leonida Regional Police Service at the New Team of Weapons and Tactics has chosen this system explicitly for flexibility with denoting the neighborhoods in each version game, while also allowing for easy-expansion should Rockstar Games choose to expand the map in future updates of their games.
