Sometimes, local resources such as printers or drives that should be redirected to a remote desktop session will not appear even though there is no policy on the server prohibiting the redirection.

Instructions with Pictures
Step 1 - Open Remote Desktop
Note: If you are already connected to the Remote Desktop session, you must exit out first.
Click the Windows logo ( ), usually on the lower left-hand side of the screen to access the Start menu.
If you're using Windows 10, 8.1, or 8: Navigate to Windows Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection
If you're using Windows 7: Navigate to All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection

Step 2 - Open Remote Desktop
If you see Show Options, click on it. Otherwise, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 - Open the Remote Desktop File
First click the Open button.

Then browse to the remote desktop file, click on it, and then click Open:

Step 4 - Open Local Resources
Click on the Local Resources tab.

Step 5 - Disable Redirection
Uncheck the boxes for Printers and Clipboard, and then click the More button.

Next, uncheck all the boxes for every category and then click OK.

Step 6 - Open the General Tab
Click on the General tab.

Step 7 - Save the File
Click Save.

Step 8 - Go Back to Local Resources
Click on the Local Resources tab once again.

Step 9 - Enable Redirection
Check both boxes for both Printers and Clipboard and then click More.

Next, check all the boxes for each category and then click OK.

Step 10 - Go Back to the General Tab
Click the General tab once again.

Step 11 - Save the File
Click Save.

Step 12 - Connect
Now you can click Connect to connect to the Remote Desktop session.

Enter your credentials as prompted, and all local resources should properly show up now without issues.
Text Instructions Only

Based on your Windows version:

If you have Windows 10, 8.1, or 8:
- In the Start menu, navigate to Windows Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.

If you have Windows 7:
- In the Start menu, navigate to All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.

If you have Windows 10, 8.1, or 8:
- At the bottom of the window, if you see Show Options, click on it. If you see Hide Options, proceed to step 3.
- Click on Open... under Connection Settings and browse for and open the appropriate .rdp file (once opened, the settings such as computer name and gateway settings should be auto-filled).
- At the top, click the Local Resources tab.
- Under the Local devices and resources section at the bottom:
- Clear the boxes for Printers and Clipboard and then click More.
- Next, clear the boxes for all the items in the list (Smart cards, Ports, Drives, etc) and then click OK.
- Click the General tab and click Save near the bottom.
- Go back to the Local Resources tab
- Check all the check boxes for Printers and Clipboard and then click More.
- Next, check the boxes for all the items in the list (Smart cards, Ports, Drives, etc) and then click OK.
- Click the General tab and click Save near the bottom.
- When ready, click Connect.
Continue as needed to logon to the remote desktop session. If everything is working as intended, the local resources should now be redirected properly.
