BF4 Beta - What did you think?

Well, now that the Exclusive Beta is out (Open Beta comes October 1), what do you all think?

 

I played 1 full round and another half round....my computer was really not working well with it so I decided to give it up. New interface will take a bit of getting used to. I sniped for about 3-4 minutes, wasn't too bad. But of course, all the servers are on the NORMAL preset, so it's hard to gauge damage.

 

The other thing is the weapons; you only have 1 or 2 weapons to choose from in each kit. And there's two pistols, one being an M9. I was a bit excited for it, but to be honest, I think I'm going to stick to BF3 when I do play. Stats aren't going to stick with the beta anyway and I'd rather preserve my computer. I can't imagine how hard this game must be on older systems, so if I were you, don't spend too much time playing on PS3....might heat it up real good.

 

For the record, I wasn't the only one bitching. Others with better PCs were complaining too about FPS drops, etc. (and YES, we were using the LOWEST POSSIBLE video settings) so be forewarned.

I heard PC is having lag problems, but as for a PS3 owner, I didn't notice any lag or anything besides it looking like it's in Alpha still by seeing tons of grey everywhere!

 

Haven't had PS3 problems. It did go loud but that's probably because I was cooking food, was hot outside and such. Since then, I turned my AC on and it doesn't get loud....but it does that to other games like The Last Of Us so meh.

 

Controls though are weird; Holding Square, the spot button, I keep pressing Select for the scoreboard but that only brings up my battlelog thing.

It does seem that people take a lot of shots, even if they're not moving and I'm bursting them. Tried auto vs bursting against targets that aren't moving and I'm not sure if it's game lag or something but they take a lot.

 

For me, it's just confusing in general. I probably just have to get used to the menu and such

I read actually that the controls in the consoles are a bit weird. And about the "Battlelog thing" you mention, what is that? I didn't know there was an in-game Battlelog feature....must have missed it.

Brings up the friends list basically. Easier way to join a friends game instead of going to your XMB and finding the person..

There's no team chat though which is kind of stupid, but I guess it won't matter for PS4 users in the future with the new chat feature that 360 owners have.

 

Vehicles controls: You can change it I think, but you move by pressing up/down on the analog sticks and such. It's actually easier to fly a Little bird in this game, and this is coming from a person who stayed away from choppers in BF3.

 

The grenade icon is lame. I hated it in B3F3 and hate it even more in BF4. The icon is much bigger, and as soon the person throws it you can see the icon. If you thought getting a kill by a grenade is hard in BF3, I expect it to be impossible in BF4. If anything, they should remove the icon and just have your character say "Grenade" or whatever so they know, and not put a icon.

 

-You run out of ammo quickly, I'm guessing they made it so if you reload and you have 29bullets left, you waste that amount.

-I like the tank ammo reloading thing. Has a cooldown for reloading and you can't just spam the cannons, little nice feature.

 

if none of this makes sense, it's because I didn't get much sleep

 

All I can think of so far. Haven't had that much time to play, been trying to get GTA5 online but their servers are down.

I see. I did read they got rid of the "ammo saving" feature. Meaning that unused ammo when reloaded is lost.

 

Also heard that online servers for GTA V are down too. That's a bummer. :\

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but really this is nothing more then BF3 the controls are different and a couple of other things different but over all it almost the same. :sui: So far I am not impressed at at all. I have played PS3 and on the PC, mine is not the best but its not a slug either. And the game has a ton of difficulties running. Lag is horrible on PS3 and on the PC hit sensors are horrible and it does take about a mag with the Engineer kit to kill someone. I am really wishing that I didn't Pre-order this game at all. :fdesk:

I don't blame you Sapper. But there's small hope for this as this Beta is actually an older build that they are working on. It should be optimized by time of release but I'm not sure how much better on consoles it will be than BF3. I read somewhere that the low settings of BF3 on PC is roughly equivalent to the console versions.

 

As for hit markers, keep in mind this is NORMAL mode we're talking here.

 

PCs in particular had a bad amount of lag though for this beta. I only played a round and a half (nearly 2 rounds) and never went back after for two reasons -- 1). the game was nothing spectacular, 2). my computer was very hot (and not running this thing optimally either on chipset graphics, and 3). why waste my time on this when I can play BF3?.

 

Those are my thoughts on it anyhow.

 

By the way, Sapper, assuming your PC can run it at a reasonable framerate and all, you might want to consider transferring your preorder to the PC platform. EA should be able to easily do this. Unless of course you want to cancel it all together.

Well I have updated to the 580m in this machine and it was getting around 30fps give or take but I just wasnt impressed. I expected better. Yeah they added some new vehicles, same basics though and even the new vehicles are the same once you get in them. I can run it at about med and not be horrible. But I am really wishing they did keep some of the changes. There was once a game called Rainbow Six when you changed magazines and the one you unloaded had 15 rounds it wouldn't loose the 15 but it would cycle through the 6 you brought so you had a set amount of ammo. I understand that they want to keep the game moving but if you give everyone unlimited ammo it horrible with kills that should never happen. I often think the rainbow games were the best. The modern ones are set a lot like the old delta force model that was all about running and gunning. The game modes of the BF series are even the same. I may be ranting but I think the games should go back to being more real, and they have gotten away from that real, BF is still way better the COD though (except Zombies). Sorry have to credit where its due.

played the beta on PS3 for an hour or so... was not impressed at all.. Battlefield: COD edition is what I call it now... BF3 is where im staying... that and GTA 5 that is.... lol

I hear you two. BF4 was definitely a disappointment to me too. Hence why I'm playing BF3 now instead of the beta.

 

I still haven't decided whether I will spend the $60 for the PC version of GTA V. If they have options to change the physics, maybe. Otherwise, I'll probably wait.
