My Disappointments

So for one, I haven't actually played this game. So of course, there's a lot of information that I'm missing. But I think I've heard enough about the game to assume that I'll be disappointed by it after all.

GTAO (GTA online) for instance. The free mode in this game seems more like a deathmatch than actual free mode. Killing people gets you money and allows you to progress. I understand that this is GTA but give me a break. Stuff like that should be reserved for deathmatches. Next, certain vehicles (like emergency vehicles) don't spawn in normal places they should. Do you realize that there was a huge community out there who enjoyed role playing in this game? Aside from our form of city services, there were lots of clans that role played in this game. Now, procedures for our departments are going to have to be dramatically changed and further limitations may be present due to this system.

Now driving mechanics/physics. Don't even get me started in this; the handling is just ridiculous in my opinion. Completely unrealistic and - more importantly - unfit for a GTA/sandbox game in my opinion. The grip is far too strong making drifting and whatnot difficult. The damage makes no sense. A head-on collision on a freeway, at around 100 mph with a semi and Mini Cooper results in nothing but a single broken headlight and a propped-up car hood (yeah, on the Mini Cooper). GTA IV's handling of course wasn't perfect and was heavily criticized by the "boaty" feel (cars shifting from side to side too easily). But for God's sake, it was superior to the previous GTA handling and definitely better than V's handling. IV's handling was more aimed toward realism and took actual skill and practice to drive well. And don't tell me that I haven't driven a car in real life, because I have. At the time off writing this actually, I was on a bus typing this all on my mobile. I noticed the other buses backing out and leaving and boy were they rocking side to side like a boat. IV's handling want perfect but it was more than reasonable. And guess what? Now the people who can't drive for shit and end up flipping their car over can magically flip it back to normal and continue driving. It's not that such features are inappropriate in general, but they are in a GTA game in my opinion. It's like if you shot a helicopter in Battlefield and made it tumble in the air, fall on its side and flip upside down. Then all of a sudden, it flips upside right (by itself), is repaired by enemy engineers, and proceeds to kill you. Does it make any sense? Suite, maybe in some cases, but surely not in this. People who can't fly may be happy about it (or people who can't drive for shit.....hint, hint) but give me a break. Them your have the ability to control where your car is going to land while in mid-air? WTF?! This hassle just seems to be more of a disappointment to me than I expected.

I was going to wait for the PC version to release next year but I'm having major doubts that I will spend full retail price on this product. Rockstar made a heap-ton of money in this game and there's still so many issues and lacking features as of today.

This guy (post from a third-party source) made a post that seems to sum up a lot of GTAO and related things:

While this thread may never be seen by a single r* developer, I hope that many of you who have stuck with this series as long as I have might feel the same way in regards to the current status of GTA Online's economy(or lack thereof).

Firstly, it's impossible to express any desire to want to put money into a game that had quite obviously been pushed on the backburner for years. Where simple things could have been coded by one person in a night, such as the ability to taxi each other or to acquire commodities to sell in game for GTA funbucks; what we were offered instead for our Grand Theft Auto RP experience was simply "sell car" and "rob stores."

The maximum of one night must have been all the effort that Rockstar provided to their "expansive MMO freeroam experience."

So I don't think I can blame anyone for being disappointed for a reiteration of GTAIVs freeroam implimented into GTA V with a lot of big words hyping it up.

What were we expecting? Well let me tell you, because it's really pretty simple to offer game modes that could appease everyone.

1. Deathmatch Freeroam - What we have

2. Roleplay Freeroam - What I expected

Some might say GTA is just not a game for RP, and I disagree. The SA MP/MTA mods offered a vast depth of roleplay opportunities even with the limited skins available. Hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed the opportunity to enter gangland Los Santos and get to know the personalities that made these groups and the parts they played. If that's not for you, that's why deathmatch freeroam should be available; and this is what I'd been hoping Rockstar had anticipated in the development of GTA Online.

Roleplay Freeroam should be expansive to such a degree that it would hold true to the title of MMO, with all of the fixings that you should expect when entering these worlds. There should be gangs to interact with, and do missions for; gaining favor and money to those groups you choose and making enemies of the ones you don't. -This- is Los Santos at its finest, a city rife with gangsters of all levels vying for control for as much money as possible. Gang conflict is where PVP on the streets begins to make sense, and nobody is going to blame you for gunning down somebody flying purple in what is green territory. Something to that likeness would have been a simple enough concept for everybody to enjoy and become immersed in.

I can find enjoyment in this game only in finding the most creative ways to torment my peers, and its unfortunate that a game with this much potential only has that to offer me for lack of Rockstar putting effort into something of real substance. Given Rockstars stance toward working out real issues of the game vs. nerfing missions people had been legitimately completing for money; it's become abundantly apparent that the real focus here is choking off those hard working players from earning cash so that they will begin to spend real money on funbux.

This is like having somebody spit in your face, its such a disgusting put-down. I encourage nobody to put money into this game until Rockstar gives some real effort into providing you, the players, what they'd been promising for so long. I cannot blame anybody who exploited the glitches in Rockstars system, that literally required them to abuse the cash menu they are pushing so hard to cheat their users out of more of their money. This is irony at it's finest folks, and I can't say Rockstar didn't have it coming to them.

Fixing GTA:O would be simple, but it's impossible to address so long as Rockstar's greed stands in the way of true progress. A player based economy would have been the best option for Rockstar to cash in on the money cards without appearing to be pushing it too hard. There is no economy here, aside from inflating Rockstars coffers. If those people who spent 18 hours a day playing GTA could sell their hard earned assets to other players, everybody could get a taste of those benefits, and Rockstar gets some of the money. These are some of the things that define MMO's as being such money-building, time-killing powerhouses. Apparently Rockstar didn't get the memo, and simply thought robbing their customers of time -and- money would be the best way to go.

With that all off my chest, I implore each and every one of you to seriously reconsider putting money into this game. Play it to your hearts content and try to make do with the meager earnings Rockstar has offered you. Giving them money for the easy way out only encourages them to continue to deceive you, and offer you a third-rate product that even private coders could, and have done better.

Some of these missions are so broken and uninspired, I can only be taken back to third-party companies from underdeveloped countries who are overcoming language barriers to make their confusingly interesting games. Where did this mega-budget go Rockstar? Into a 300 million dollar crack party?

Only then could I understand why the infrastructure of this "MMO" is such a joke.

Re: My Disappointments

I like the game. Haven't played online in about a week, but it's good. You can make it so nobody can kill you while online, but that means you can't pull your gun out to kill others/rob stores. Only way you can die is if people run you over.

I don't bother playing with people I don't know. I only play with friends in private servers. One thing that's weird in GTA5 is the car physics and how a little bump is like driving on the moon...no gravity.

Either way, if you wait or not, I would still get it. Reason I stopped playing online is that I already had the $400k house, nothing much to do after that besides Missions but meh. I'm just waiting for the next patch for people to do bank jobs

Re: My Disappointments

I see.

Well, I do want to get the game to be honest. Despite the things I mentioned above, it seems to have some nice features in the game. I'm hoping they can also fix any issues that are present right now before releasing the PC version. So I'll hope for that. :D

Re: My Disappointments

I know a patch came out last week or so, and 1 did tonight or tomorrow to fix more stuff. It's Rockstar though, they'll fix their games up, unlike some companies that will rEmAin anonymous default_laugh.png

By the time the PC version comes out, I'm sure all the bugs will be gone, or at least 90%....depending if and when the game comes out for PC users

LOL

Yeah, I hope so too. I believe a PC release is scheduled for next year. Someone at Intel said that a PC release was planned for the same release date as consoles, but someone paid Rockstar to hold it back until later.

Re: My Disappointments

RE: the driving physics/mechanics,

personally I originally didn't like the look of it either, but when I got to playing the game I found it quite fun and it worked well for the most part. The one thing that I'm not much a fan of, particularly when it comes to a policing clan is when your car rolls over, you can easily roll it back on to it's wheels.

About damage, I'm mixed about this. Although on the exterior it might look like much, but it's much more easier for wheels to buckle, making your car travel much more slower. When you're in a police pursuit, you're pretty much screwed.

Re: My Disappointments

Well here's the thing. The driving might definitely be suitable to get used to, but to me, it just doesn't fit well into a GTA game. Of course, I haven't played it but from what I've heard, it strongly resembles the physics in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). Need for Speed isn't an open-world game like GTA is. It's hard to explain, but somehow I just don't feel like NFS driving is suitable for GTA.

GTA IV's handling was a step in the right direction, aimed toward realism and was by far more realistic than the driving of any of the previous GTA's.

And when it comes to police pursuits, it's another issue for reasons that Ollie already mentioned. Not to mention the amount of damage it'll take to stop someone.

Maybe it'll work out eventually. But I feel that the game was released with less features than planned. And the mechanics were done to please those who complained about the IV physics. :sui:

Re: My Disappointments

Unfortunately I have realised something else. If we blow up someone's car, we would get a fine, also this would make us considered a 'bad sport', meaning we might even be placed in lobby's dedicated to 'bad sports' only.

Honestly, I don't think it's worth setting up a policing clan in GTA V's online system. It's just not worth the effort and trouble.

That's not to say that GTA online isn't fun, as a matter of fact it's great fun and I love it, but it isn't suited to police RPing clans needs/wants.

Edit: I'm playing GTA online right now and I finally managed to find one parked police cruiser outside a police department that I wasn't aware of. :colgate:

More good news, driving past police who were standing outside the station, they didn't react at all, I didn't even get a wanted level.

Re: My Disappointments

Hmm, that's interesting...in a not so good way. On the flip side, we don't really need to blow up their car --- just kill them. There might be a few times a car gets destroyed, but I can't imagine often.

Good news that you found a car though. Maybe over time we could work something out. I suppose we'll see.

Glad to see this hasn't been an issue for all these years. There could be more cars around though, and would have been nice to be able to repair them easier (like in IV) but ah well.
