BIG Updates

Hello everyone,

I have some news about a variety of things, so I'll start out with important things first.

To start this out, I've accumulated a few reports from a few different members on different occasions about some things that need to be addressed. The first reports I got involved people being called a "TWAT", in derogatory regards. These reports mainly came from people that were not highly skilled in the game. Then later reports I received were just certain people being generally offended by the word "twat". Aside from these reports, we've undoubtedly had issues with server banners being reported and things of that nature. Partially for these reasons (others explained further below), we will make a slight change to the name of the organization, including the organization clan tags.

This organization name was originally thought of by myself a few years ago (2011). At the time, I operated Liberty City United Divisions and thus had no need for the other name; LCUD had been in operation since 2008. The Team of Weapons And Tactics truly began development this past year, in the beginning of 2013. Throughout our course of development, we've achieved a positive reputation on the PlayStation Network and are even merging Liberty City United Divisions. Since we're on the right track of development, our new name will be "New Team of Weapons and Tactics" and our abbreviations (which will also serve as our clan tag) will be "NTWT" (without quotes, of course). Those of you who still wish to wear the old clan tags ("TWAT") may continue to do so, but preferably everyone should be wearing the new tags by October 2013. Of course, I stress the word preferably, since people can (per our policy) wear other clan tags if they truly wish to do so.

I realize this takes away from some of the fun and laughs we used to get, but overall, it's for the better. Our website URL will remain as-is, and our server name will be updated accordingly, along with the banner. Additionally, our logo will receive minor adjustments.

So, that wraps up the most important announcement. Everything else that follows below is more informative.

Soon, we will be moving to a new server that will have more advanced hardware and general specifications. After all upgrades considered, it will feature 200GB of disk space available to the server, 5GB of dedicated RAM, and of course, the improved hardware itself.

I am planning a big project which will take approximately 100GB of the server HDD space (no, it's not the Service Database) that will be experimental for a short while, to see if it's feasible to release to everyone here. Once I've set it up and tested it a bit, I'll make a final decision as to whether or not it'll be feasible to release to everyone here as a member-exclusive privilege. After all, this project will involve using 100GB of HDD space and approximately 1.5GB of RAM. I will not go into any further detail about the project until it is tested but rest-assured, if released, it will be an exclusive privilege available only to trusted members. Some may find it more useful than others, but that's a different story.

As for the move, there is absolutely no action needed on any of your parts as members or end-users. The new server will be setup for me to install all necessary software and once completed (which could take up to a week), all DNS settings (IP addresses, MX records, etc) will be pointed to our new server. Due to the nature of DNS and the Internet, DNS could take from 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. What this means is that it is possible that you will connect to our old server while others may connect to our new server. In other words, some people may be connected to our new server faster than others. This issue won't be "taken care of" until the 48-hour general period is over, but that's nothing we can control. To prevent potential confusion, the forums on our old server will be closed while the forums on the new server will be open. So, if you visit our forums and they are closed, you'll know that you're on the old site and your section of the global Internet hasn't quite updated just yet. Again, this will only be an issue for about a maximum of 48 hours, so it won't be too bad. Additionally, all our forums, threads, topics, users, etc. will be retained, so there will be no need to register again.

The only application that will not be retained is our TeamSpeak 3 server, which will need a full re-install and reconfiguration. Not really a big deal, since no one has used it yet.

There is one downside to this advanced hardware that I was made aware of a bit later. It's that it doesn't support a mainframe server control panel. That means that if the server shuts down unexpectedly, the only way to boot it is for me to open a support ticket with the sever hosting company and they will boot it. The server is able to be rebooted without any issues, just not booted. In the end, all this means is that in an event where the server unexpectedly shuts down, it may take slightly longer to be restored, depending on the speed and availability of the server provider themselves.

Soon I will be opening the Department of Information Technology, which will be composed only of people who are familiar with OS, system, and technical management. Such people will likely be given access to submit support tickets to boot the server, should such an event ever occur. The Department of IT will be discussed in more detail later, and there will be a short (yet concise) examination that applicants must pass. Such examinations will only be waived if you are a licensed IT Administrator, IT Specialist, or can provide photographic proof of appropriate IT certification (such as a Microsoft Certification). The IT positions will be very strict; even founders and co-founders will be withheld to the standard requirements.

So, that wraps up my announcements on the upcoming updates. All this is planned to take effect within one to two weeks. If there are any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reply to this topic.

Re: BIG Updates

Yeah....lol. I think most people were okay with it (only got complaints from a couple of people here) but I believe all the banner issues were being caused by:

> Members (primarily staff) of the 3RD

> Leaders of other clans who were probably jealous that our server was getting a lot of attention

> People with no sense of humour

> And finally, people with nothing better to do

We do have a few females on our PlayStation Network as well as some on the PC Network who didn't seem too fond of the tag either...default_tongue.png. I noticed that after the recent announcement regarding the new tags that people who weren't wearing our tags before were now wearing the new ones.
