However, the board will arrive close to Christmas time. I hope you guys enjoy the new board. I've heard that some of you don't like phpBB3 either the UI (User Interface) or wether the ACP (Admin Control Panel) the new ACP on the VBulletin will be more catorgorized and will be easy to menuver around with it. We will be also getting a shoutboxs and one theme. The theme will be a dark theme but I dont want to disclosed the theme. -Best Regard's, Gilly
Christopher 1,393
Re: NEW FORUM/BOARD SOFTWARE!!!! Hello everyone, I wanted to add some detail to the above announcement. As you've read, we do plan on obtaining a copy of vBulletin in the near future and hope to "convert" our current forums to the new board software. The decision to do this was based primarily off of feedback that I received from numerous people. The feedback that I received was that many of the staff members were disappointed with the switch from our old software, because it was easier to maneuver, and provided easy-to-use user-interface. In addition, it featured a lot of nice touches, such as the social options, more in-depth profiles, and of course, the fluid transitions. Unfortunately, Invision Power Board (the board software in question) lacked a lot of basic features that were crucial in running a successful board. I also was a part of their community, where customers would obtain support from the developers and other staff members and after a while, was quite shocked to read some of the replies from the developers. Long story short, with the lack of necessary features topped off with the illogical state of mind in the developers, I decided it best we move on to something more stable and secure, phpBB3. Nearly my first forum was run using phPBB3, so I undoubtedly have a long history with it, dating back to 2007. The features (primarily back-end and security features) were simply unmatched to any other forum software I had used --- at least any free ones. The front-end isn't (and never really was) something to brag about, but it got the job done. vBulletin seems to include the security features that phpBB3 had (which our first forum software lacked) and in addition, provides the ease-of-access and profile depth that some people here have been hoping for. We do want to stress that there is no explicit time that we plan to perform the migration. Migrating forum software is very risky in terms of data loss, which means this process will take some time to hopefully perfect. There is no guarantee that migrations will be successful, especially between two different pieces of software. Once we obtain a legal copy and license of vBulletin, we will be setting up a prototype forum and will begin testing on it. The test will involve migrating a state of our forums to the installation so that we can find out what data will be migrated and what data will be lost. After, we will have to do some tweaking to get the permissions system correct and the system to be generally stable. Again, this will be a time-consuming process thus there is no guarantee when it will happen. Only after we've felt to have done enough testing will we actually begin the process in migrating our board. That said, we hope you will enjoy the new board and appreciate any feedback you may have. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
